Phillip has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who suffer from a wide variety of mental, behavioral, and emotional issues. Phillip uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction methods to create treatment plans custom tailored for a client or family. Phillip enjoys learning about the entire person in their diverse environments and by working in private practice at the EBCA, local schools, and in adolescent and adult inpatient units, he can see various perspectives of problematic issues. In addition to his current role and career in psychotherapy, Phillip has a unique background in sports and in business, having spent time in Europe playing soccer in his youth, coaching locally, and building a national wine brand. As his clients say, he understands what it is like to be out there in the world: having to perform and attempt to balance all of life’s issues. Phillip’s ultimate goal is to have his clients learn evidence-based methods to dial down their suffering and become their own therapists leaving therapy knowing, “I got this!”
Phillip regularly sits at long silent meditation retreats, is a yoga teacher having practiced for over 20 years, and has a certified therapy Labrador retriever named “Ladybug” who regularly accompanies him in sessions and by special request.

Phillip’s therapy dog:
A 10-year-old yellow Labrador retriever and certified therapy pet, Ladybug was born in Charleston, South Carolina. She trained as a field dog and was converted to a therapy pet working locally at an adolescent psychiatric unit, public schools, and here at EBCA. She is both kind and energetic, having the instinct to fetch and return to hand with a firm command. She’s helped countless humans smile and ease their suffering, even in the most difficult circumstances.
